Baripada: In a shocking incident, a school warden was killed and principal critically injured after unidentified miscreants attacked them near a private school in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
As per information, the incident took place near Gadadeulia Chhak under the jurisdiction of Baisinga police station late on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sanyasi Das of Dhanapal area under Manatri police outpost in Badasahi. Principal Kadambini Rout sustained critical injury in the attack.
The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. The attack reportedly took place at around 11 pm when the two were travelling on a motorcycle.
Sources said the headmistress had fallen ill, and the warden was taking her from the school to a nearby medicine shop when the attack took place. Both victims were shifted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared the warden dead. The principal was reported to be in stable condition.
School staff members who rushed the victims to hospital stated they had not witnessed the attack.
On being informed, police have initiated an investigation into the incident. While the motive remains unestablished, preliminary suspicion suggests possible previous enmity based on the nature and severity of the attack.
The number of assailants is yet to be determined CCTV footage from a nearby toll gate is being examined.
