New Delhi: Panic gripped schools in the national capital after several campuses of Delhi Public School, Amity and Mother Mary’s, received emails threatening a bomb attack on Wednesday morning.
Mother Mary School at Mayur Vihar, Delhi Public School at Dwarka, Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Delhi Public School at Vasant Kunj and Amity School in Saket were evacuated as a precaution after local police was informed about the emails.
Bomb detection team, bomb disposal squad and officials of Delhi Fire Service have been rushed to the schools and a search operation is underway. “Information was received regarding a bomb in Delhi Public School, Dwarka. Delhi Police, Bomb Disposal Squad and fire tenders have arrived on the spot. Search is underway,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
Mayur Vihar’s Mother Mary’s, Amity Saket and Pushp Vihar, DPS Noida, Vasant Kunj, RK Puram, and Sanskriti schools have also received similar threats.
“This is to inform you that the school has received an email that threatens the safety and security of the students. As a precaution, we are sending the students back home immediately,” DPS Noida’s principal’s office issued a statement.
Delhi Minister Atishi also tweeted, “Students have been evacuated and those premises are being searched by Delhi Police. So far nothing has been found in any of the schools. We are in constant touch with the Police and the schools…”
Security agencies, including Delhi Police Special Cell, are looking to find the source of the email. “Initial investigation shows that since yesterday, emails have been sent to many places, and it seems to follow the same pattern. The mail does not mention a dateline or BCC, which means that one message has been sent to many places. The investigation is ongoing,” it added.
