Bhubaneswar: The district administration of Mayurbhanj and Kendrapada have announced closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres on Monday in view of heavy rain forecast.
Monday’s holiday will apply to all government and private educational institutions up to Class 12. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid the possibility of intense rainfall. Teachers and staff, however, have been directed to attend their respective schools as usual. They have been instructed to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with the local administration if required.
A similar order was earlier issued by Jagatsinghpur administration, announcing closure of all government, government-aided, and private schools at the elementary, secondary, and higher secondary levels, including Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs) and Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), as well as Anganwadi centres, to ensure safety of the students.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of North Odisha-West Bengal coasts is likely to move nearly northwestwards, intensify further into a deep depression on Monday morning and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Chandbali and Canning around forenoon/noon.
Under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds is likely in several districts of the state.
