Science Writer From Odisha Wins National Award

New Delhi: Prof. Suryamani Behera Retd. Professor and popular science writer of Odisha was conferred with the prestigious National Award for Outstanding Efforts in Science & Technology Communication for the year 2019 at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday.

He writes both in Odia and English languages and has been writing articles and books for more than 30 years. He has more than 40 books and more than a 1000  published articles to his credit. His latest books “Vigyan Ru Gyana”, “Jantra Karuchi Mantra”, “Vigyan Sahitya Darpan”, “Bigyan Mela” and books on medicinal plants cultivation have become very popular. 

Articles on food processing and preservation are his notable contributions. Many people in the cottage industry refer to these books for help. Prof. Behera has also established Janapriya Vigyan Manch to impart training to budding popular science writers and journalists.

Behera received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind. This award is presented to an individual or an institution for outstanding work in communication of science and technology and/or promoting scientific temper having impact in the country during the past five years. The award consists of Rs 5 lakh, a memento and a citation.
