Second African Cheetah Dies Within A Month At Kuno National Park

Bhopal: Less than a month after one of the African cheetahs died at Kuno National Park, a second one passed away on Monday.

Six-year-old Uday, one of 12 cheetahs flown into India in February, fell sick on Sunday morning.

Uday appeared lethargic during the daily check-up and was seen limping, a press release from forest department stated.

He was tranquilised and administered treatment at 11 am, after which he was taken out from the large enclosure. It was around 4 pm that Uday died.

Of the 20 cheetahs that were transported from Africa since September as part of India’s project to reintroduce the big cats in the country, 18 are alive currently.

Sasha, a five-year-old Namibian cheetah, died on March 27 due to a kidney infection. She was part of the first batch of cheetahs flown into Kuno National Park from Namibia last year.

The second batch of cheetahs came from South Africa in February.
