Bhopal: One of the eight cheetahs from Africa’s Namibia introduced in Kuno National Park last year died on Monday.
The female cheetah, named Sasha, had been suffering from a kidney ailment before she was transported to India in September 2022.
Two months ago, Sasha had to be tranquilised and shifted to quarantine enclosure for treatment after showing signs of fatigue and weakness.
Sasha, a captive-bred cheetah, was three years old when she was released with 7 other cheetahs at Kuno by PM Narendra Modi on September 17.
A second batch of 12 cheetahs were brought from South Africa last month, as part of India’s cheetah reintroduction programme.
All cheetahs were kept under observation in quarantine for the first few weeks before being released into larger hunting enclosures in November.
The cheetahs have been hunting on their own since then and showing signs of adapting to new home.
