Jagatsinghpur: A special POCSO court here on Tuesday awarded death penalty to Kalia Mana for the rape and murder of a minor girl at Ersama in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.
According to case records, Kalia had picked up a nine-year-old minor girl from Gadaharishpur village under Erasama police limits in the district on March 21. He raped her in a cashew forest near the village and later dumped the body there.
In course of the investigation, Ersama police arrested Naba and produced him in the court. The court on the basis of the statement of the witnesses and the evidence submitted by the police awarded him death penalty.
On July 24, a special court had awarded death sentence to a 22-year-old man for rape and murder of a minor girl at Angul’s Kangula village in January this year. The case had assumed significance not only for the landmark judgment but also the pace of police investigation, arrest of the accused and completion of trial, all of which were completed within six months.
