Second Major Gold Heist In Odisha’s Berhampur In Less Than Two Months
Berhampur: In a broad day-light heist, burglars decamped with 400 grams gold jewellery and Rs 1.4 lakh cash from a shop at Bada Bazar here last night.
Burglars entered the first floor shop of Keshav Jewellers by breaking the window grill and looted all the jewellery which were meant for repairing. Then they went to the ground floor and looted cash from counter box. They also tried to open the safe iron chest where the new ornaments were kept but could not, police said.
C Satyanarayan Senapati one of the owners of Keshav Jewellers and president of Ganjam and Berhampur Jewellers Association said we closed the shop at 9 to 10 pm last night. When we opened the shop at 10 am today, the things inside the shop were scattered and we informed the police immediately.
Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra, SDPO Berhampur Bishnu Prasad Pati and IIC Bada Bazar police station Prasant Bhupati reached the spot with scientific team and the investigation is on. The burglars also snapped the wires of the CCTV. But, the police are silent about any CCTV footage.
The loot has similarities with October 30 robbery in Vinod Jewellers. Located just two shops away in the same area thieves had fled with 2.8 kg gold worth about Rs 1 crore.
