Bhubaneswar: The second National Lok Adalat of 2026 is set to take place on May 9 across all trial and divisional courts in Odisha’s Khurda district, offering litigants a swift and cost-effective avenue to resolve disputes through amicable settlements
Salomi Sahu, Secretary of the Khurda District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), shared details of the event, which will cover a wide range of pending and pre-litigation cases. Eligible matters include compoundable criminal cases, plea bargaining, cheque bounce and loan recovery disputes, motor accident claims, compoundable traffic challans, labour and employment issues, public utility services, electricity and water bills, matrimonial and family disputes (excluding divorce), land acquisition, service and pension matters, revenue cases, intellectual property rights, and consumer complaints.
Cases can be presented before district and sub-divisional courts for resolution via mutual consent. Pre-litigation disputes, those not yet filed in court, can also be addressed through the DLSA or Taluk Legal Services Committees.
People are encouraged to approach these bodies for issues such as loan defaults, succession matters, traffic e-challans via virtual or online platforms, labour disputes, utility bills, revenue and land acquisition problems, and public utility services handled by Permanent Lok Adalats.
Besides matrimonial and domestic conflicts, commercial disputes, arbitration matters, consumer cases, and certain land-related issues can also be settled through mediation.
The Legal Services Authority has urged citizens to submit applications in advance to the relevant courts or legal services institutions to ensure timely disposal during Lok Adalat. No court fee is required for settlement in the Lok Adalat, and its decisions are final and legally binding.
