Bhubaneswar: The second phase of Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, beginning Friday, is likely to be equally stormy with Opposition BJP and Congress planning to corner the government over Naba Das killing and law and order issues in the House.
While the BJP will continue with its demand for a CBI probe into the sensational murder case and the government’s failure to protect women, Congress will raise law and order, employment and farmer issues.
The ruling party may also take up the negligence of the state by the Centre to counter the Opposition’s moves, sources said.
According to the schedule, the reports of department-related standing committees will be presented on March 10 and expenditure of various departments from March 13 to 29. The appropriation bill on the budget for the year 2023-24 will be tabled on March 31. The private member’s business (bills and resolutions) will be presented on April 4 and 6.
The Budget Session, which commenced on February 21, will continue till April 6.
The first phase of the session started on a stormy note with Opposition BJP and Congress creating a ruckus over minister Naba Das’s murder and staged a walkout during the Governor’s address. The Economic Survey was tabled on February 23 and the annual state budget for 2023-24 was presented by Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari in the house on February 24.
