New Delhi: The government of India on Thursday launched a massive ‘Vande Bharat’ mission to bring back Indians stranded abroad due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The week-long first phase, which will see 64 flights flying around 15,000 returnees from 12 countries, will be followed by a second phase, beginning on May 15.

With requests growing significantly by the day, the government has decided to expand its operation so as to evacuate stranded Indians from countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Germany, Spain and Thailand, PTI reported on Friday, quoting sources.
They said stranded Indians in central Asia as well as in various European countries will be brought back home under the second phase of the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ beginning May 15.
On Friday, two flights from Gulf countries flew over 350 passengers to Kerala.
