Mumbai: In a major security breach, an identified woman managed to reach the office of Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) Devendra Fadanavis in the Mantralaya building in Mumbai and vandalised the space outside it Thursday evening. At the time of the incident, the DCM’s office on the sixth floor of the high-security building was locked.
A video of the incident emerged on the internet, making people baffled as Mantralaya in the Nariman Point area houses state government departments with ministers and top bureaucrats having their offices in it.
The video shows the woman raising slogans against Fadnavis and throwing his nameplate on the floor in an attempt to damage it. Several potted plants are also seen thrown to the floor.
Security persons and staff at the building tried to detain her but she managed to escape through the south-end gate.
Sources claimed the woman was upset over an issue related to her house. According to reports, Marine Drive police are investigating the incident and searching for the woman.
Both opposition leaders and ordinary people expressed their surprise and concern over the security breach.
Reacting to the incident, senior BJP leader and minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said the incident should not be politicised. It suggests that the DCM’s life could be in danger. All aspects of the incident will be analysed, he told a Marathi news channel.
