Senior Army Officer From Odisha Jumps To Death Before Train At Pune Railway Station
Bhubaneswar: A Brigadier-rank Army officer, identified as Anant Naik from Odisha, allegedly died by suicide at the Pune railway station on Sunday morning.
The 57-year-old officer allegedly jumped in front of the Solapur-bound Udyan Express that was on its way to Bengaluru.
“The victim came to the railway station with his driver. Leaving the driver outside, he went to platform number 3 and jumped before the Udyan Express around 12:15 pm and died,” SP (Pune Railways), Sadanand Waise-Patil was quoted as saying by the PTI.
According to media reports, Naik was posted as the Head of the Department and Hospital Administration at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune and staying alone in the officer’s quarters there.
His family stays in Bhubaneswar.
“Information about the death of an army person at Pune railway station was reported by the railway police to the army authorities. The body of the deceased individual has been identified as a serving officer from AFMC Pune. Further details are being ascertained,” a statement from a defence spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Railway Protection Force (RPF) has started an investigation into the alleged suicide.
