Delhi: A seven-year-old girl was found dead with her throat slit inside her home in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area on Monday.
The gruesome discovery was made on Saturday evening when a patrolling team noticed a crowd outside the house.
Upon investigation, a head constable found the unconscious girl lying in a pool of blood inside the residence. He immediately alerted the local police station and senior officers, following which multiple teams were dispatched to the scene.
The forensic and crime units also examined the crime scene, and the child’s body was sent to BJRM Hospital in Jahangirpuri for an autopsy.
Surveillance footage from the vicinity showed the girl’s father, Prem Singh (32), and his acquaintance, Ranjit, leaving the area around the time of the incident. “Efforts are underway to apprehend both suspects,” a senior officer said.
Singh, a daily wage labourer, originally from Patna, Bihar, lived in Swaroop Nagar with his wife Muskan (32), who works in a factory in Delhi’s Libaspur. The couple have another daughter, aged nine, who was not harmed.
The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the murder, while efforts to track down the father and his associate continue. The mother will also be questioned to try and ascertain the motive behind the crime.
Authorities are not writing off the possibility of ‘black magic’.
