Bhubaneswar: Severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha for the next 4-5 days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Tuesday.
“The daytime temperature is likely to rise by 1-2 degrees in interior areas. Heatwave is unlikely in southern and coastal regions as a few places here may receive rainfall during the next 5 days,” he added.
According to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, a few places in Interior Odisha are likely to witness a slight rise in temperature as the mercury is expected to soar by about 2°C due to northwesterly/westerly dry air at lower levels and high solar insolation.
Due to the incursion of southerly near-surface levels, the maximum temperature is likely to fall slightly by about 2°C in coastal Odisha during the next 2 days, it added.
The Met Office further said that the day temperature is expected to remain 3 to 5°C above normal at many places in Interior Odisha and 2 to 3°C above normal at a few places in coastal Odisha during the next 4 to 5 days. People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during the daytime between 11 am and 3 pm.
