Bengaluru: Amid the Lok Sabha elections, an alleged sex scandal involving former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s grandson Prajwal Revanna has become the talking point in Karnataka.
The Janata Dal (Secular) MP from Hassan, who is seeking re-election from the Karnataka constituency, on Sunday filed a police complaint claiming that the sex videos being circulated are doctored.
A day after Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah ordered a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the scandal, Revanna filed an FIR claiming the morphed videos are being circulated to “tarnish my image and poison the minds of voters.”
The CM said in the obscene video clips doing the rounds in Hassan district, it appears that women have been sexually assaulted.
“The government has decided to form a special investigation team in connection with Prajwal Revanna’s obscene video case. In this background, the Chairperson of Women’s Commission (Dr Nagalakshmi Chowdhary) had written a letter to the government to conduct an SIT investigation. This decision has been taken in response to their request,” Siddaramaiah explained.
Polling was held in Hassan on April 26, following which Revanna left for Germany.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Revanna had beaten his BJP rival by more than 1.4 lakh votes.
This time, JDS formed an alliance with BJP in September last year after breaking ties with the Congress.
BJP, however, has distanced itself from sex tapes scandal.
“We, as a party, have nothing to do with the videos and neither do we have any comments to make on the SIT probe announced by the state government into the alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna,” said S Prakash, chief spokesperson of BJP’s state unit.
