Kolkata: In a sensational charge, a female employee of Raj Bhavan has accused West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose of sexual harassment.
The woman had been working as a temporary staff of Raj Bhavan since 2019, reported local TV channels. Hailing from one of the districts, she used to live in the women’s hostel in Raj Bhavan.
She complained of feeling uncomfortable when the Governor met her on Thursday, reportedly to discuss her promotion, reported ABP Ananda.
She first approached the police outpost of Raj Bhavan, before filing a complaint at the nearest Hare Street Police station.
According to her complaint, the woman was touched improperly by the Governor a week earlier also, local media reported.
There has been no response from Raj Bhavan yet.
Though it’s a very serious charge, the Governor has an immunity from the Constitution of India.
According to Article 361 of the Constitution, no criminal proceedings whatsoever shall be instituted or continued against the President, or the Governor or Rajpramukh of a State, in any court during his term of office.
Hence, Kolkata police won’t be able to register any case against Ananda Bose based on the woman’s complaint.
Neither can he be questioned nor arrested.
Kolkata Police are seeking legal opinion on what can be done in view of the sexual harassment charge against the Bengal Governor.
