Mumbai: At the trailer launch event of ‘Deva’, when a reporter asked Shahid Kapoor about the attack on Saif Ali Khan indirectly, the actor said he would’ve respected him had he been straightforward.
Referring to Shahid’s on-screen cop character in ‘Deva’, the actor (ex-flame of Kareena Kapoor Khan) was asked how he would handle attacks on celebrities if he was a real-life police officer.
“What you are saying is a sad incident. We all are very concerned in the fraternity. You asked me indirectly. Had you asked me directly, I would respect it more,” replied Shahid.
Shocked to know about such attacks in a safe city like Mumbai, Shahid wished Saif a speedy recovery.
“We hope Saif’s health is better. We hope he is feeling better. We all are shocked with what happened with him in a personal space. It’s difficult to absorb (something like this) in a city like Mumbai. I’m sure the police are trying their best,” Shahid said.
“Mumbai is a very safe city. When a family member or ladies go out at 2 am, it’s still safe. It’s a shocking incident. We are hoping and praying he recovers soon. We are hoping and praying for him all the time,” the actor said, expressing disbelief over the incident.
Saif and Shahid shared screen space in Vishal Bhardwaj’s period film ‘Rangoon’ (2017), which also featured Kangana Ranaut.
Saif sustained six stab wounds, including one in his neck, during the attack which took place at his Bandra residence at around 2.30 am on Thursday.
The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital and after a five-hour surgery, doctors said he is recovering well.
Mumbai police detained a suspect in connection with the attack on Saif on Friday morning. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Deva’, directed by Rosshan Andrrews and written by Bobby–Sanjay, is scheduled to release on January 31. The film also stars Pooja Hegde and Pavail Gulati.
