Shaktikanta Das Assumes Charge As RBI Governor
New Delhi: Former Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das assumed charge as 25th RBI Governor on Wednesday.
Taking to Twitter, Das wrote, “Assumed charge as Governor, Reserve Bank of India. Thank you each and everyone for your good wishes.”

He replaced Urjit Patel, who resigned on Monday amid tiff with the government over issues related to governance and autonomy of the central bank. He is the first RBI governor since 1990 to have quit before completion of term.
Hours after assuming charge, Das addressed a press conference and said that he will try to uphold the core values and autonomy of the central bank.
Following his appointment on Tuesday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley termed Das as a person with “right credentials” for the RBI top job.
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant also said that he was the right choice for the job.
“He is a seasoned and sensible civil servant. He understands the dynamics of central bank and government. I believe he will be able to maintain RBI’s autonomy and independence,” said former RBI Deputy Governor HR Khan.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had tweeted congratulating Das. He is the first Odia to be appointed to the top post.

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan too wished him success in a tweet.
