Bhubaneswar: The 12th Shambhavi Puraskar was awarded by Bansidhar and Ila Panda Foundation (BIPF) to the Centre for Integrated Rural and Tribal Development (CIRTD) for its significant work in rural development in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
CIRTD has been transforming rural communities by improving the lives of farmers, women, children and youth through various sustainable development initiatives.
Dr Sibaji Panda, from Odisha’s Sonepur, was presented the Jury Commendation Certification for his efforts in supporting children with hearing impairments and helping them reach their full potential.
Shambhavi Puraskar, instituted in 2014, has recognised and empowered over 20 grassroots changemakers. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation and trophy.
The Jury Commendation Certification comprises a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.
Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Enterprise and Education Jayant Singh Chaudhury was the chief guest and Padma Shri Prof. Dr Ashok Kumar Mohapatra was the guest of honour at the event.
“Odisha is a resource-rich state and skill development is very important for people here. Institutionally, Odisha is ahead of the game. But like any resource rich region there is economic disparity in the people. To bridge this, more entrepreneurs who can provide jobs are needed,” Union minister Chaudhary said.
Sharing his thoughts, Prof. (Dr) Mahapatra said transformation begins when potential within communities is recognised and nurtured.
A fireside chat between the Union minister, Dr Mohapatra and young representatives from the skill sector and schools was one of the highlights of the ceremony.
Moderated by Shaifalika Panda, Trustee & Founder CEO, BIPF, & Chief of CSR (Special Initiatives), IMFA, the session delved into aspirations, challenges and future opportunities of today’s youth.
