Sharp Hike In Prices Of LPG Cylinder; Details Here
New Delhi: Non-subsidised LPG or cooking gas cylinders saw a sharp hike, the sixth in the last few months, on Wednesday with state-owned marketing companies increasing the price by up to Rs 149 per cylinder across metro cities.
The prices was last increased by Rs 19 a cylinder following a rise in international rates on January 1.
According to Indian Oil, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 858.5 in Delhi. It was available for Rs 714 in the national capital on January 1. Kolkata also saw a sharp rise of Rs 149 with the cylinder now being made available for Rs 896. The new price in Mumbai stands at Rs 829.5, which will be up from Rs 684.50 earlier. In Chennai, a non-subsidised LPG cylinder will cost Rs 881 against Rs 734 earlier, a report in the Business Standard said.
While fuel retailers sell LPG cylinders at the market price, the government provides subsidy for 12 cylinders to each household a year through direct benefit transfer scheme. Those buying non-subsidised cylinders pay the market price plus the GST.
