Mumbai: With a career spanning over five decades, Sridevi is one of the most celebrated and versatile actors in Indian cinema.
Having worked in multiple industries, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, the late actress has left behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
Today on her 62nd birth anniversary, let’s revisit an old interview of the legendary actress, where she had revealed that ‘Mr. India’ was her personal favourite film.
Sharing the reason behind it, Sridevi, whose innate talent and captivating screen presence made her people’s favourite, said, ‘Mr. India’ gave her a chance to showcase her acting skills beyond her glam image.
“In every film for an artist, it is the director who plays the biggest role. We were spontaneous, but it was the director who helped. For instance, I have worked with Shekhar Kapoor, and I really enjoyed my experience in Mr India. It was my best film, I can say. Because that’s the first film which was different from a glamorous role. People started talking, of course, I think she can also act,” Sridevi said in an interview with Colors Cineplex.
Recalling the iconic Charlie Chaplin sequence in the Shekhar Kapur directed sci-fi film, Sridevi revealed that initially, it was supposed to be a minor scene. But when she got into the costume and started acting the director was impressed that he turned it into a major comedic highlight of the film.
Produced by Boney Kapoor and Surinder Kapoor, ‘Mr. India’ also features Anil Kapoor as the male lead and Amrish Puri as the antagonist.
Sridevi has received numerous accolades, including the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Mom’ (2017), 5 Filmfare Awards, and also India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri in 2013.
