Phulbani: The Kandhamal administration has issued a show-cause notice to the headmaster of a high school in Nuagaon over the tractor ride by a group of Class X students to the matric examination centre, which went viral recently.
The footage showed more than 30 Class 10 (matriculation) candidates from PM Shri High School in the K Nuagaon area clinging to a tractor as it transported them along bumpy rural roads to their designated examination centre at Kudutuli High School, roughly 3 km away. It led to public outrage, with many raising concern over safety risks posed by such unsafe and unregulated modes of transport, especially for young students during a critical examination period.
Kandhamal Collector Ved Bhushan has assured stringent action against those who facilitated the tractor ride.
According to District Welfare Officer R N Mishra, the additional DWO is expected to submit his inquiry report on Friday, following which appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the teachers and staff involved.
The school’s headmaster could not be contacted for his comments on the incident.
