Sydney: Indian batter Shreyas Iyer, under treatment at a Sydney hospital, is showing signs of steady improvement.
Shreyas had to be hospitalised on Sunday after sustaining a nasty injury while pulling off a spectacular running catch during the third and final ODI against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on October 25.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Monday that Shreyas sustained a “blunt injury” to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding.
His condition stabilised on Monday, and he was shifted out of the ICU.
On Tuesday evening, the BCCI said Shreyas is on the road to recovery.
A repeat scan was conducted, and the reports show significant improvement.
“The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress,” BCCI stated.
Earlier today, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav provided an update on Shreyas, saying that the latter has been responding to his messages.
Team India, having lost the ODI series 1-2, will look to turn the tables on Australia in the five-match T20 International series which begins at Canberra’s Manuka Oval on Wednesday.
Shreyas, who has taken a break from red-ball cricket, is not part of India’s T20I squad. The stylish right-hander will hope to be fit for the home ODI series versus South Africa, from November 30.
