SI Arrested For Taking Rs 15000 Bribe Through PhonePe In Odisha
Cuttack: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested sub-inspector of Bausuni police station, Boudh, Bikram Kumar Dehury for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 15,000 from a complainant to release of his seized motorcycle.
The payment was allegedly done through PhonePe.
“Taking bribe through digital mode is a new modus operandi of corrupt public servants to evade getting caught red-handed with cash,” SP, Cell Division, Cuttack, M Radhakrisna said while briefing the media.
According to a Vigilance release, though Sessions Judge, Boudh, had directed the IIC of Baunsuni police station to release the seized motorcycle, Dehury demanded the illegal gratification from the complainant and asked him to deposit the amount in an account number. Accordingly, the complainant transferred the bribe amount (through PhonePe) to the account number provided by the SI. Soon after transfer of bribe amount, Dehury was trapped by the Vigilance team.
Simultaneous searches were also conducted at his rest room inside Baunsuni police station and his house at native village Ratha Sahi, Puruna Katak, in Boudh district.
A case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered in Berhampur and further investigation is on.
