Bengaluru: In a much-anticipated joint press conference on Saturday, Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar moved to dispel speculation about a leadership crisis within their party in Karnataka. The two held a breakfast meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence following weeks of rumours over a purported “rotational CM deal.”

“There are no differences between us and there will be no differences in the future. Our agenda is the 2028 elections. Local body elections are important. We discussed them. We also discussed bringing back Congress in the 2028 elections,” Siddaramaiah was quoted as saying by ANI.

He further emphasised trust in the central leadership of their party, saying: “We will follow whatever the high command says… there is still no confusion.”

On his part, DK Shivakumar reiterated that he stands with the Chief Minister and reaffirmed that no internal group or faction exists. “Whatever the CM said, I am with the CM,” he said, stressing that the government and party remain united.

A high-stakes meeting of senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, is expected to take place on Sunday, November 30, HT reported.

The controversy surrounding the alleged “rotational CM deal” resurfaced after November 20 — the date when the current Congress government in Karnataka completed two-and-a-half years of its five-year term. Under the purported agreement, power was to be rotated between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar mid-term.
