Kolkata: Shortly after Mamata Banerjee reached Sonia Gandhi’s residence in Delhi for a one-one-one meeting, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team turned up at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief’s home in Kolkata in connection with an investigation into alleged forged signature of MLAs.
Already knee-deep in trouble and facing a massive revolt by the party’s MLAs and MPs, the three-time former West Bengal chief minister has now been hit by another ‘bomb’.
Another team of the state investigating agency reached the Camac Street office of Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, who happens to be TMC’s national general secretary.
Abhishek, summoned for the third time by the CID in the signature forgery case, evaded showing up once again and sought more time as he is in Delhi right now.
Abhishek is at the centre of the probe as he had signed a letter with alleged forged signatures of some MLAs and the accompanying meeting resolution register recommending Sobhandeb Chatterjee as the Leader of Opposition in Assembly.
But this is the first time that Mamata has been involved in the investigation.
CID officials, accompanied by Kalighat police station personnel and a contingent of female cops, arrived at 30B Harish Chatterjee Street, which is Mamata’s residence address and also houses TMC’s central office, in the afternoon.
A large contingent of central forces was deployed in the area.

According to CID officials, a search was sought on the basis of a reply submitted by Abhishek to an earlier notice issued by the agency, reported NDTV.
“In his response, Abhishek Banerjee stated that signatures of MLAs were collected at the party’s central office at 30B Harish Chatterjee Street. Based on that statement, we have come here as part of the investigation,” a CID officer was quoted as saying.
