SIMI Link: NIA Team Picks Up Koraput Businessman?
Koraput: A team of officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly picked up a businessman from his house in Koraput town late on Saturday night for his alleged link with the Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), a banned Islamist organization in India involved in terror activities, sources said.
Though there is no specific information available with the police about the incident, the absence of the said businessman in Koraput town has further raised the apprehension among the locals that he has been picked up by the NIA team.
According to sources, NIA had the information about transfer of money to the tune of crores from abroad to the account of the said businessman. On the basis of the information, the NIA team raided the businessman’s house on Saturday night. It is also said that during the raid, the NIA officials have seized huge amount of cash and some incriminating documents from the house.
It is said that after the raid, the investigating team picked up the businessmen after getting the evidence that he was utilizing the foreign money for terrorist activities.
Reliable sources said that this businessman was under the scanner of the local police for a long time following a tip-off by the Intelligence Bureau. As per the report of the Intelligence Bureau, a number of people from other areas of Odisha and outside Odisha used to congregate at his house every day.
Asked about the matter, Koraput SP, Dr Kanwar Vishal Singh said though the district police has come to know that a person of Koraput town has been picked up for his alleged nexus with a terror outfit, it has been neither intimated about the raid nor informed after the raid.
