Bhubaneswar: Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will visit Odisha during his India tour in January 2025, High Commissioner of Singapore to India Simon Wong informed during a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Lok Seva Bhawan here on Tuesday.
Singapore has also agreed to be the first country partner for Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, the flagship biennial investors’ meet scheduled for January 28-29.
“Odisha is the only state the President chose to visit during his India tour, recognising the huge opportunity for strengthening business partnership along with existing cultural ties,” Wong said.
He highlighted the state’s potential in petrochemicals, green energy, and skills development.
According to a CMO release, the next month visit commemorates Singapore and India’s 60 years of diplomatic relations and during his Singapore trip last month, the CM had extend an invitation to the Singapore President to visit Odisha while in India.
Reacting to the development, Majhi said that that there is tremendous potential for collaboration between Singapore and Odisha. He added that the relationship is poised for the next level in various sectors such as petrochemicals, urban planning, tourism, renewable energy and skill development.
The upcoming presidential visit is expected to further strengthen the economic and cultural ties between Singapore and Odisha, opening new avenues for mutual growth and cooperation, it added.
Notably, Singapore is one of India’s largest source of Foreign Direct Investment, with strong bilateral ties in trade, defence, technology, and cultural exchange.
