Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) on black money is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Wednesday.
Official sources said the meeting will be chaired by the panel’s vice-chairman Justice (Retd) Arijit Pasayat. Senior officials of the Income Tax department, Enforcement Directorate (ED), Customs and Excise are slated to attend the meeting.
ED Director Rahul Navin, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Ravi Agrawal and other senior officials arrived in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night for the meeting.
Top officials of Odisha Vigilance and Crime Branch are also slated to attend the crucial meeting.
Notably, the SIT) on black money is likely to submit its ninth interim report to the apex court within 15 days, sources said. The panel has already submitted eight reports to the Supreme Court. After today’s meeting, the SIT will submit its ninth interim report to the apex court within a fortnight.
After coming to power in May 2014, the Narendra Modi government, in its first cabinet meeting, had approved the appointment of the SIT on black money as directed by the Supreme Court.
Notably, SIT has also sought details regarding officials facing corruption charges in Odisha. Its vice-chairman recently directed Odisha Vigilance to submit information on state government officials who have been booked under graft charges.
The SIT had written to the Vigilance Director in this matter ahead of the meeting being held in Cuttack on Wednesday, the sources added.
