New Delhi: After infecting tens of thousands of people in over 60 countries across the world, the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) is raising its ugly head in India, which reported three new cases this week.
The total number of confirmed infections in the country is six. Of these, three were reported from Kerala in February and one each from Delhi, Hyderabad and Jaipur in March.
The three natives of Kerala and students from Wuhan have been discharged from hospital after treatment.
Among the recent cases, the 45-year-old man in Delhi had a travel history of Italy, while the 24-year-old software engineer from Telangana had recently returned from Dubai. Similarly, a 69-year-old Italian tourist admitted to a hospital in Jaipur tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released basic preventive measures, saying ‘Help us to Help you’, to avoid the spread of the deadly virus.
The measures:
-Wash your hands frequently
-Maintain social distancing
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
-Practice respiratory hygiene by covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze
-If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care at the earliest
-Stay informed and follow the advice given by your healthcare provider

On using a mask, the Ministry said:
-Before putting on a mask, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
– Cover your mouth and nose with a mask and make sure there are no gaps
– Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp
– Do not reuse single-use masks
– Remove the mask from behind and avoid touching the front of the mask
– Discard the mask immediately in a closed bin after use
