Berhampur: At least 6 persons, all belonging to one family, were injured in firecracker explosion in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the family members of Dandapani Behera of Beruhabadi village under Kodala police limits were engaged in making firecrackers in their house when the explosion took place. Initially, the villagers could not know what happened from the loud sound of the explosion.
After hearing the cries of injured family members of Dandapani, they went to his house which was filled with smoke. The villagers rushed the injured persons to Kodal hospital. All the family members had sustained 50 per cent burn injuries.
Later, five injured persons were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition deteriorated.
On being informed, a police team from Kodala along with Purusottampur Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) went to the village and started investigation.
The sources said the family was making the firecrackers without due permission from the authorities.
