Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will soon introduce electric bus (EV Bus) network in six more cities to strengthen urban transport.

Announcing this on Saturday, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the move is part of the state government’s effort to promote sustainable transport and reduce carbon emission in urban areas.

Officials said the state now operates 670 buses, including 220 electric buses, across 113 routes covering 1,399 km. The Minister said the newly procured electric buses will be deployed in cities with high public transport demand to ensure wider accessibility and enhance urban mobility.

Passengers using the online ticketing system have also benefited from enhanced services, with ticket revenue rising by 35% due to increased convenience and digital adoption.

The government will monitor passenger demand and deploy additional buses as required to ensure efficient service. The expansion of the electric bus fleet is set to make city travel cleaner, faster, and more economical for daily commuters, the Minister said.
