Sixth Low Pressure Of Monsoon Forms Over Bay; Heavy Rain Alert For Khurda, Puri & 9 Other Dists
Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal and the system is likely to concentrate into a well-marked low pressure in the next 48 hours, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department informed on Thursday.
This is the sixth low pressure in this monsoon season and the system is expected to bring intense spells of rain to the state.
The MeT office has forecast heavy rainfall ( 7 to 11cm) at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri in the next 24 hours. The intensity of rain is likely to increase the following day with heavy to very heavy rainfall ( 7 to 20cm) at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall ( 7 to 20cm) will continue at one or two places in Khurda, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur on September 10. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Sonepur and Balangir during this period.
On September 11, there is a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall ( 7 to 20cm) at one or two places in Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir and Nabarangpur with heavy rainfall ( 7 to 11cm) at one or two places in Angul, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Bargarh, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Gajapati and Ganjam.
The weatherman has also warned about squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55kmph over westcentral Bay of Bengal adjoining South Odisha- North Andhra Pradesh coast between September 9 and September 10. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea along & off south Odisha coast and over westcentral Bay of Bengal during this period.
