Skull Tumour Removed Through Minimal Invasive Procedure At SUM Ultimate

Bhubaneswar: In a rare surgery, Dr Radhamadhab Sahu of SUM Ultimate Medicare successfully removed a tumour from the skull of an elderly woman.

Dr Sahu, Head of ENT and Skull Base Surgery in the hospital, conducted the trans-nasal endoscopic skull base surgery on Prabha Tiwari, who had developed the tumour in her cranial base extending up to middle cranial fossa with involvement of optic nerve. It was causing her acute headache and loss of vision.

The patient’s son, urologist Dr Devi Prasad Tiwari, travelled nearly 1,000 km by road with his mother from Bihar’s Samastipur to get the surgery done at SUM Ultimate Medicare after he had scanned the list of experts and facilities at the pan India level.

The patient recovered well post surgery, and was discharged from the hospital after three days.

One of the few trained skull base surgeons in India and among the pioneers in his field, Dr Sahu heads the Centre of Excellence for cranial base surgery at SUM Ultimate Medicare.

He recently performed a similar procedure — endoscopic approach to pertous apex plasmacytoma — a rare and challenging minimal invasive brain surgery done through the trans-nasal route.
