Cuddalore: A groom was left cursing his luck as the bride snubbed him to marry one of her relatives.
The bizarre incident took place at Panriti, in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district when the groom allegedly slapped the bride for dancing at a wedding function.
It so happened that the bride and groom were dancing merrily to the tune of DJ’s music, The Times of India reported. Things got awkward when the girl’s cousin joined them and held their hands.
The groom got angry when the cousin put his hands on the couple’s shoulders and started to dance, and pushed the bride and her cousin away.
According to the bride’s family, the groom slapped her when she joined him on the dance stage. The bride then decided to call off the wedding, with her parents’ approval.
A suitable groom was found from among relatives of the girl and the wedding went ahead at the scheduled time, but at a different venue.
The spurned groom filed a complaint with the all-women Panruti police station, the ToI report added.
In his complaint, he stated that when he asked the bride why she danced with others, she said it was her decision and was not accountable for explanation to anyone. He also alleged the bride’s family abused and assaulted him.
