New York: Priyanka Chopra has been making her presence felt in Hollywood for the last few years with a number of projects which have been widely appreciated.
Her latest movie, the much-awaited The Matrix Resurrections, was released on December 22 and is doing well in the box office. However, netizens pointed out that the Indian actress has a small role in the Keanu Reeves starrer.
Priyanka, who plays the role of Sati, is not amused with some of the reactions on social media and called out the “small mentality” of people from “South Asian community.”
Asked about her thought process before accepting the role in The Matrix Resurrections, Priyanka said she does not choose roles according to their length, be it in Bollywood or international projects.
“I think you are coming from something which a lot of people from the South Asian community ask me. ‘Oh, it’s a small role, it’s not a leading role. Why did you do it?’ (laughs) Because it’s The Matrix and I play an extremely pivotal part,” Priyanka said during the course of an interview with Asian Sunday TV.
“Even when I picked my movies in Bollywood, I have always picked roles according to characters and they are not necessarily always the lead. The lead is Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Trinity in the last three movies. You’re not competing with that and I think it’s such a myopic and very small mentality to think that way,” remarked Priyanka.
Watch the interview shared on Instagram:
“I am not very myopic when it comes to my characters, especially not The Matrix… I love being on the playground with incredible people,” she added.
Priyanka’s next Hollywood ventures are Citadel and Text For You.
