Snehadeep Of Bhubaneswar’s KIIT Youngest Participant At UK National Astronomy Meeting

Bhubaneswar: Snehadeep Kumar, a second year Electronics & Electrical student of KIIT-DU, made heads turn at the prestigious National Astronomy Meeting (NAM) 2023 held at Cardiff University, Wales, recently.

Snehadeep garnered admiration as he became the youngest to present a poster at the meeting and was also the only undergraduate student at the event.

His talent surprised Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) president Dr Mike Edmunds and several other scientists.

Apart from Dr Edmunds, Snehadeep had the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the brightest minds in astrophysics like Nobel laureate Dr James Peebles and Dr John Peacock.

RAS Council Members pointed out that KIIT became the only institute in the world to send an undergraduate delegate to NAM.

Snehadeep presented a poster on ‘Saha’s theory of thermal ionization in star formation’.

KIIT thus became the first Indian university to present a talk or a poster at NAM, where only 176 research posters from around the world were selected. Such an opportunity is usually given to post-doctorate researchers and scientific professionals.

The NAM is Royal Astronomical Society’s annual scientific conference of astronomers and functions as the primary annual meeting of RAS. It is one of the biggest astronomical conferences in the world, with about 600 delegates attending each year.

Snehadeep thanked KIIT for supporting him throughout the journey and making his dream come true.

KIIT & KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta congratulated Snehadeep and wished him a bright future.

Snehadeep earlier participated in various conferences across the globe, such as the International Astronomical Congress 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He will be participating NAM 2024 as well, to be held at Hull, England.
