Bhubaneswar: The Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University celebrated its student-centric movement ‘Jaago’ on Saturday at a programme to present prizes to winners of the ‘SOA Jaago Talent Hunt’ competition.
Speaking at the event, SOA vice-president Saswati Das said the ‘Jaago’ movement, which was started 18 years ago, has been successful in inculcating moral and humanistic values among students.
Launched at SOA’s Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) in 2007, ‘Jaago’ has spread to other campuses of the university over the years.
Members of ‘Jaago’ have been engaged in providing free tuition to slum children. School bags and uniform have also been given to the children, including on Saturday.
SOA vice-chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda said that the university had taken up such programmes for the betterment of society.
Pro-vice chancellor Prof. Neeta Mohanty, Controller of Examination Prof. Manjula Das, ITER Dean Prof. Pradip Kumar Sahu and Additional Dean (Student Affairs) Prof. Renu Sharma also addressed te programme.
