London: With the world inching nearer to launching a COVID-19 vaccine, there is increasing concern over anti-vaccine disinformation on social media.
UK’s Labour Party has demanded social media firms to “stamp out dangerous anti-vaccine content” or be subject to financial and criminal penalties.
The centre-left political party, currently not in power, has said the spread of such content presents a “real and present danger” to vaccination efforts.
It also said that anti-vaccination conspiracy theories provide a recruiting ground for the far right.
Earlier in September, thousands had gathered at London’s Trafalgar Square to protest against lockdown and vaccines.
