Son Born Out Of Rape Helps Woman Get Justice After 27 Years, Accused Traced To Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Almost after three decades, a rape survivor of Uttar Pradesh’s Shahajahanpur finally got justice with the arrest of one of the accused from Hyderabad. The other accused have been traced to somewhere in Odisha.
A DNA test confirmed the crime of the accused persons identified as Mohammed Razi and Naqi Hasan.
Police arrested 48-year-old Mohammed Razi, on Tuesday from Hyderabad, where he was hiding. “Razi confessed and said that he never imagined that the case would be opened after all these years,” inspector Dharmendra Kumar Gupta, who is part of the investigation, told TOI.
The incident took place in Shahajahanpur in 1994, when the survivor was raped multiple times by the duo, her family’s acquaintance, and impregnated at the age of 12. She was allegedly forced to give up her son for adoption and threatened by the accused not to file an FIR.
In 2021, the son of the survivor traced his mother and encouraged her to seek justice. An FIR was registered at Shahjahanpur on the orders of the court on March 4, 2021.
“We didn’t have the complete names of the accused and their addresses were not confirmed either. It was quite an old case but the complaint looked genuine. We wanted to help the woman get justice as she had suffered a lot in her childhood,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Shahajahanpur was quoted as saying by the national daily.
The DNA of one of the accused matched with that of the survivor’s son. Following this, the cops arrested the accused and a further probe is underway, the report added.
