Sonali Phogat Death Case: After 2 Aides, Goa Police Arrest Restaurant Owner, Drug Peddler
Panaji: Two more people have been arrested in connection with Haryana BJP leader and TikTok star Sonali Phogat’s death in Goa.
Those taken in custody by Goa Police on Saturday are suspected drug peddler Dattaprasad Gaonkar and Edwin Nunes, owner of Curlie’s restaurant where Sonali was seen partying the night before her death.
Police had earlier arrested two of Sonali’s aides Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh Wasi, who were sent to 10-day police custody by a Goa court.
“A drug peddler who had supplied drugs (to the accused) has been arrested. The owner of the shack where drugs were found has been arrested too. Investigation is going on well. Multiple teams are working. We will send one team to Haryana to verify some allegations and suspicions levelled by the family because those doubts would also have a bearing on the investigation,” Goa DGP Jaspal Singh.
Sonali was brought dead to St Anthony Hospital at Anjuna in North Goa district on the morning of August 23.
Doctors had initially said she died of a cardiac arrest. Goa Police subsequently registered a murder case, with Sonali’s brother alleging in a complaint that she had been murdered by her personal assistant Sangwan along with Wasi with the intention of taking over her properties and financial assets.
According to police, her drinking water was spiked which apparently caused the popular 42-year-old content creator’s death.
