Bhubaneswar: Police arrested the Sarpanch of Sonepur district, who was accused of misbehaving with a girl at a quarantine centre, from Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night.
The Sarpanch, Banamali Sa of Andhari Banzi under Dunguripali block, was absconding since his misconduct was reported in the media. On getting the information that Sa had escaped to Bhubaneswar, Sonepur police sought the help of DCP, Bhubaneswar to trace him.
A special squad formed for the purpose traced the absconding sarpanch in DHPL Sahoo Complex in Patia on Tuesday night and handed him over to Sonepur police. The police forwarded the accused to court on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old victim, who had returned from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, had alleged that Sa had been misbehaving with her while she was staying alone in a room of a quarantine centre at Andhari Banji. On a particular night, he even tried to enter her room in an inebriated condition, she had claimed.
