Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha town Sonepur on Thursday turned a frying pan as temperature crossed 44 degree Celsius even as 5 places in Odisha reported 42 degree or more.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sonepur recorded highest temperature in the state with 44.2 degree Celsius against 43.9 degree on Wednesday.
The next highest was Balangir with 42.8 degree Celsius, followed by Baripada 42.5, Jharsuguda 42.2, and Boudh 42 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered 37.7 and 38.4 degree Celsius respectively. Seaside town Gopalpur recorded the lowest temperature at 30.4 degree Celsius.
The IMD has forecast that there will be no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) during next 5 days in Odisha. Maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40 degree Celsius and above normal by 2 to 3 degree at many places in interior Odisha during next 2 days.
