New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s mother Paola Maino breathed her last at her Italy home on Saturday.
“Smt Sonia Gandhi’s mother Mrs Paola Maino passed away at her home in Italy on Saturday the 27th August, 2022. The funeral took place yesterday,” tweeted Congress’ General Secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh.
Sonia, her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had left for Italy a week ago to visit the ailing Paola, who was in her 90s.
Rahul and Priyanka visited their grandmother a number of times over the last few years. When Rahul faced criticism over frequent overseas trips in 2020, Congress had said he was on a personal visit to Italy to meet “an ailing relative.”
