Chittoor: The nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus has brought life to a crippling halt, especially for farmers and those who are self-employed. But then there are good Samaritan like Sonu Sood who come along to pull them out of a crisis.
Veerathallu Nageswara Rao of Andhra Pradesh used to run a tea stall with his wife but after the lockdown, the couple moved back to their native Mahalrajuvaripalle village and started farming with little to no resources left.
On July 26, actor Sonu Sood tweeted a video of the Rao couple and their two daughters doing farming. In the original caption of the video, it was mentioned that V Nageswara Rao took heavy losses due to the lockdown and now “with no cash in hand he begins Kharif season on a sombre note”.
Sood retweeted the video saying, “This family doesn’t deserve a pair of Ox, They deserve a tractor. So sending you one. By evening a tractor will be ploughing your fields. Stay blessed” The humble actor also managed to slip in a cute little Ox emoticon in the sincere message for the family.
In another tweet, the actor asks the daughters to focus on their education and leave the ploughing work to their father with the tractor. He also added in Hindi, “Farmers are the pride of our nation.”
Following the tweet by the actor, President of the Telugu Desam Party, N Chandrababu Naidu tweeted thanking Sonu Sood’s gesture and took responsibility for the education of Rao’s daughters. The sweet gesture was met with much appreciation by fans and social reformers as well as politicians. His fans tweeted in response comparing him with superheroes like Superman and Krish.
