Sourav Ganguly’s Wife Dona To Get Rajya Sabha Nomination?
Kolkata: His exploits as a cricketer and role as an administrator apart, Sourav Ganguly has also made headlines for reasons political. Or, rather, on political rumours.
However, every time the former Team India captain has been linked to a political party – be it Trinamool Congress or BJP – Sourav has firmly denied those reports.
Now, there is speculation that his wife Dona Ganguly may be making her political debut.
Republic Bangla reported that Dona may be nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Ram Nath Kovind.
The TV channel quoted sources as saying that Dona – an Odissi dancer who trained under Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra — is agreeable to the idea as she wants to push the cause of West Bengal in Parliament.
The Rajya Sabha has 250 members, of whom 12 are nominated by the President directly from among persons with special knowledge or practical experience in fields like literature, science, art and social services.
Last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Gangulys’ house, where he had dinner.
Dona and the troupe from her dance school ‘Diksha Manjari’ performed at a Union government-organized cultural programme at Victoria Memorial last Saturday in the presence of Shah, who was on a three-day visit to West Bengal.
There was a fresh round of speculation about Sourav taking the plunge in politics, but the BCCI president seems to have pulled off a surprise by convincing his better half to try her luck.
