Bhubaneswar: The retreat of the south-west monsoon from Odisha will begin in a week, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday.
Informing the media here, duty officer, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmikanta Giri said that the south-west monsoon had already started withdrawing from most parts of Haryana, Punjab and some parts of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan. “The condition is now favourable for the retreat of the monsoon from Central India, Eastern India and most parts of north-west India and it will happen in a couple of days,” he added.
Referring to Odisha, Giri said monsoon, which is still active in some parts of Odisha, is expected to withdraw within a week. “Barring sporadic and light to moderate rainfall, there is no possibility of heavy rainfall in any part of the state. Such condition is expected to prevail for a couple of days,” he pointed out.
Talking about the weather on Friday, he said there will be light rainfall and thundershower at some places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts.
