Southwest Monsoon May Arrive Early In Odisha; Check IMD Forecast
Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in Odisha in the next 4-5 days, before its usual date of June 12, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Karnataka, some parts of south Maharashtra, Goa, remaining parts Rayalaseema, Telangana & Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some parts of south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha, some more parts of Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal during next 4-5 days,” it said.
Southwest monsoon has already covered parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, the regional centre here has issued yellow warning of heatwave for Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, and Kandhamal on June 4-5. Hot and humid weather may also prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts from June 4 to June 7.
It has also warned of thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri on June 6, and Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur on June 7.
While there will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 24 hours, mercury levels may gradually rise by 2-3 degree Celsius at many places in the state during the subsequent 4 days, it added.
