Mumbai: A four-year-old boy was killed after a speeding car, which was allegedly being driven by a 19-year-old man, hit him in Mumbai on Sunday. The mishap took place near the Ambedkar College in Mumbai’s Wadala area. The victim has been identified as Ayush Laxman Kinvade, who lived on footpath with his family. His father is a worker, reports stated. The accused driver, Sandeep Gole, had been arrested, reported the NDTV. A resident of Vile Parle, Gole was driving the Hyundai Creta, police said. Further investigation is on.
This comes days after a driver in Mumbai lost control of the electric bus of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and rammed into pedestrians and vehicles. At least seven were killed and 42 injured.
More than 20 vehicles were also damaged in the crash in Kurla on December 9. According to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Maharashtra was among the states that had seen the highest number of road accidents in past five years.
The report, released last week, also revealed that more than 7 lakh people had died in various road accidents in the country between 2018 and 2022. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of road accident deaths (1,08,882), followed by Tamil Nadu (84,316) and Maharashtra (66,370), the report claimed.
